Fast-track Learning for Code Compliant Lighting Control Solutions
Energy code compliance can be a complex topic for many in the commercial lighting business. The code standards can vary by region and can sometimes be difficult to understand. Leviton has developed a series of videos to give you and your contractors a quick and easy understanding of the more common energy code requirements along with their respective solutions. This includes: (1) Partial-ON/partial OFF, (2) Daylight Harvesting, and (3) Demand Response.
In the video, What are Partial-ON and Partial-OFF Lighting Controls, we learn how commercial energy codes require partial-ON and partial-Off controls to automatically adjust lighting based on occupancy. Viewers are taken through a quick definition of occupancy and vacancy sensing and how the energy reducing partial-ON and partial-OFF settings work.
What is Daylight Harvesting, explains the energy management techniques that respond to the amount of natural light in a space and automatically adjusts the artificial light resulting in energy savings. Lighting control is enhanced with either an open loop which measures the intensity of the natural light, or a closed loop which detects both natural and artificial light and adjusts lighting accordingly. This video also explains where daylight harvesting is best utilized, such as in classrooms.
Finally, Understanding Demand Response, shows the strategy electric utility companies use to meet the demand for energy through intentional reduction in power consumption. This is done during critical demand times either through involuntary measures such as rolling brownouts or with the voluntary aid of consumers.
When the utility company notifies consumers in advance of an energy issue it enables them to modify their power consumption before a brownout. This ‘green’ feature, not only saves energy but also gives consumers access to price incentives while maintaining good relations.
