Safety First: Leviton’s Whole-Home Solutions
Leviton’s Load Centers, Decora Smart products, and surge protection devices deliver safe operation and easy installation every time.
Because people’s homes are their castles, homeowners are increasingly embracing technology that brings greater control and convenience to their lives while ensuring safety and peace of mind. And Leviton is dedicated to meeting them where they are.
“Homeowners are more aware of the electrical products in their homes and more focused on minimizing the risk of an electrical event than ever,” confirmed Sydney Cheatham, Leviton’s Residential Marketing Specialist. For these homeowners and their contractors, she said, “the assurance that their electrical devices are designed with the utmost safety in mind is an absolute must.”
No company has prioritized home safety more than Leviton, a trusted industry leader that’s been providing high quality, safe, and reliable whole-home solutions for more than a century. Below are just some of the key safety features resident within several of Leviton’s most popular whole-home products and why they’ve become the product of choice for distributors, contractors, and homeowners alike:
Leviton Load Center
“One of the most differentiating safety features within the Leviton Load Center – a residential electrical circuit breaker panel that offers contractors a safe, easy-to-install product and homeowners a user-friendly solution for home energy management -- is its diagnostics,” Cheatham said. Specifically, the Load Center’s line-side power breakers provide visible and long-lasting LED notification on the breaker itself if a trip occurs. “Unlike notifications on competing products that go off after 30 seconds, the Load Center’s LED notification remains lit until the issue is resolved, eliminating the need for contractors to have to recreate a fault/trip in order to diagnose it.” As further back-up, the Load Center’s ‘Smart Anomaly Detection’ feature notifies homeowners of |

such situations as a freezer door left open, an HVAC system running too high or low, etc.
In addition, thanks to its line side-powered surge protection feature, the Load Center serves as a breaker that functions on a regular circuit while also providing surge protection for the entire panel/home. “Contractors love that our breakers double as whole-panel surge protection but also feed their own circuits so that they don’t ‘eat up a space’ in the panel,” Cheatham said. “And the Load Center’s incorporation of an optional clear window with the ability to be locked enables homeowners to prevent unauthorized entry but still visually identify a trip or other issue through the window.”
Leviton Load Centers comply with several National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements, including NEC 210.8 for Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) requirements, NEC 210.12 for Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI) requirements, and NEC 215.18, NEC 225.42, and NEC 230.67 for surge protection. “And Leviton’s programmable breakers can assist with the new energy code requirements we’re seeing in some states,” noted Greg Rhoades, Leviton’s Director of Marketing for Smart and New Technology Products.
“The Leviton Load Center stands out from competing products in the smart panel category based on its design, affordability, modularity, and ability to accommodate upgrades to smart technology at the homeowner’s own pace,” Cheatham said. A prominent part of the Leviton ecosystem of products, “the Load Center optimally supports electricians whether they need a standard or smart panel and is a mainstay product for distributors who are invested in the residential sector.”
Decora Smart Solutions In addition to the ease with which Leviton’s broad line of Decora Smart switches, plugs, outlets, motion sensors, and fan controllers can be scheduled and controlled, they promote safety by sending notifications directly to the homeowner’s phone through the My Leviton app. As an example, “Leviton’s Smart GFCI outlets are ideal for vacation homes and rental properties because they immediately notify an offsite owner of any trips so that they can be quickly addressed,” Cheatham said.
Surge Protection
“If you don’t have a Leviton Load Center, Leviton offers surge protection devices at the panel or receptacle level, which promote safety by diverting damaging volt surges from devices and protecting expensive electronics,” Cheatham said.
“Ultimately, distributors who carry the Leviton line-up of whole-home products will be helping contractors who serve the niche smart home segment as well as homeowners,” Cheatham confirmed. “At the end user level, homeowners can feel secure thanks to Leviton’s many user-friendly safety features and can easily upgrade from standard to smart capabilities along the way. And Leviton’s safe and easy-to-install whole-home products will help contractors differentiate their services and build their expertise and clientele in the growing smart home segment.”
