Leviton Brings It All Together at the
2024 NECA Show
With a host of high-performing and integrated solutions for residential, commercial, and industrial applications, Leviton helps contractors see the big picture
On September 28th-October 1st, 2024, more than 350 exhibitors and 10,000 participants attended the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) Show in San Diego for the latest on new products, trends, and issues of importance to the $225 billion electrical construction industry. Leviton was among the key manufacturers exhibiting at the busy show, which culminated in a concert by renowned 1970s-1980s pop band Kool & the Gang on the USS Midway.
In the following interview, Josh Knott, Leviton’s Director of Construction & Technical Sales, shares his experience at this year’s NECA Show, some of the products and trends making headlines in the electrical contracting industry, and attendees’ response to Leviton’s robust display of innovations.
How was attendance and the overall vibe of this year’s show?
Knott: The show was well-attended and attendee engagement has definitely grown over the past several years based on the educational tracks NECA offers. Contractors came looking for specific solutions to address the challenges their industry is facing, including skills gaps, labor shortages, evolving technology, and the need for continuing education. A range of project managers, engineers, purchasing professionals, and other key decision makers from the electrical contracting industry attended and had very specific questions for vendors like ourselves in hopes that we’d help them solve a variety of issues.
What was the overall strategic message at Leviton’s booth this year?
Knott: Leviton’s 20 X 20 booth highlighted two different pillars. The first involved a “More with Leviton” contractor campaign that addressed ways in which Leviton helps contractors generate more revenue, mitigate risk through technology and training, and become more efficient. There was also a focus on helping contractors integrate all of the many solutions we offer and tap into our technical, educational, and marketing resources to help them expand their revenue opportunities and manage all of the additional scopes they’re now responsible for, as contractors are becoming increasingly involved with HVAC, control systems, and smart technology.
What products were featured at Leviton’s booth this year?
Knott: There was strong representation from across Leviton’s entire product portfolio, including time-saving installations and technological advances that support code requirements and systems integration/interoperability. Two video screens explained how to connect all of our controls, and our booth also incorporated a feature wall detailing our contractor programs and the outreach we offer to assist contractors with marketing, engineering, and revenue/business growth.
Specific products highlighted included Leviton’s labor-saving solutions that enable faster, easier, and more efficient wiring for residential, commercial, and industrial applications, submetering solutions designed to support energy management and/or code compliance objectives, and our wireless Ceiling Mounted Sensor (CMS), a feature-rich controls solution which removes the need for contractors to climb up and down ladders to commission and program everything. We additionally showcased our high-performing Leviton Load Center (LLC), which supports a home’s energy goals by integrating and managing everything from EV chargers, lighting, power consumption, and more while helping contractors generate revenue and build their business.
How was Leviton’s booth received by attendees?
Knott: Because contractors need to see how all of our products work together, one of our biggest attention grabbers was our ‘convergence wall,’ which showed the interrelation between our various residential, commercial, and industrial products and how they’re tied together on data networks. Contractors rely on us to understand the big picture and that display allowed them to see all of our products in the context of a fully functional smart building or home. The booth was staffed by eight of Leviton’s team members, including our core contractor salespeople and several product managers, all of whom love to engage directly with customers to solicit feedback, answer questions, and get design ideas. Overall, we had a strong presence at the show and great engagement at our booth by attendees.
What did contractors and distributors take away from their visit to Leviton’s booth?
Knott: The NECA Show is where a lot of industry trends are revealed and where Leviton and its distributors work to formulate intelligent business solutions designed to help contractors and strengthen all of our mutual market positions. Leviton is very connected to its customers and committed to helping them solve challenges through our company’s unique support services and innovations. From contractors and distributors to engineers, end users, and more, Leviton recognizes the importance of its many stakeholders and is dedicated to supporting and growing business for all players in the value chain. Through the company’s long tradition of innovation, high level of engagement all along the value chain, robust marketing programs, and proactive community outreach, distributors can differentiate themselves by partnering with Leviton.
