Keeping Up with the Codes – State Energy
Code Updates


Staying up to date with the latest energy codes can be challenging for many electrical professionals since individual states and municipalities can adhere to a variety of different versions of IECC and ASHRAE 90.1. Navigating evolving building energy codes and standards is a task that electrical contractors, engineers, designers, suppliers, and building professionals face daily. In today’s market, it’s critical to understand what’s currently required and how to apply the requirements in the field. Fortunately, Leviton provides a suite of energy code resources and training to support their valued reseller and installer partners in navigating the maze of energy code compliance. This year Leviton has released updated energy code line cards to reflect the state energy code changes for the following states:
  • Washington State - Changed from 2018 IECC to 2021 IECC effective
    March 1, 2024.
  • Ohio - Changed from ASHRAE 2010 vs 2012 IECC to 2021 IECC effective
    March 1, 2024.
  • Illinois - Changed from 2018 IECC to 2021 IECC effective January 1, 2024.
  • Minnesota - Commercial Energy Code updated to ASHRAE 90.1 2019
  • New Mexico - Commercial Energy Code updated to ASHRAE 90.1 and
    2021 IECC
  • Virginia - Uniform Statewide Building Code updated to ASHRAE 90.1 2016 and
    2018 IECC
The energy code line cards are maintained for every state, along with a suite of energy code resources including state by state rebate maps and mobile apps for the big three energy codes, IECC, ASHRAE, and Title 24.
