Elevate Your Leadership Potential
Everyone is a born leader, but some need more practice, coaching and training than others. Leadership training is extremely important in every industry and business. Good leaders empower and influence teams to achieve business goals, which ultimately can result to increased business. While people in management job roles in a company may have a strong educational background and work experience, they may still lack the leadership skills. This is why leadership skills training becomes crucial. Professional leadership training programs can help to create and groom employees to become the best possible leaders.
There are many leadership training programs and many require a lot of time and investment both by the employer and individuals, depending on the desired outcome. Many have heard of Harvard Business School, but their leadership training can add up to a mere $52,000 – for just one year. Or there’s Wharton Business School or Cornell University that offer targeted programs for C-Suite executives for less cost and time, and these are available on-line. Each person needs to find the specific program to suit their needs and goals for today and tomorrow. |

The National Association of Electrical Distributors (NAED) is dedicated to help distributors advance themselves and their business by overcoming obstacles. In doing so, they provide resources for their members that include online or in-person classes, expanded research, including data analytics, as well as hosting conferences and other networking opportunities. NAED recently rolled out their Leadership Development Program, which is a 12-month curriculum designed to develop leaders or make better leaders in the electrical distribution industry. |

NAED Targets Distributor Leaders
NAED had received a lot of interest in putting together such a program; so this is in response to key challenges identified by their members. Some challenges in the industry include keeping up with new technologies and understanding best methods to engaging with the customers to strengthen the customer experience. Additional goals for current and future leaders, who go through the program include: improving employee retention by increasing overall employee fulfillment; enhancing the workplace culture; building emotional intelligence; which all result in increasing the company’s performance.
The 12-month program combines online as well as in-person participation. NAED uses leadership practices of the Capstone Leadership Project with their timeline and metrics’ processes. The first step is to assess the goals and needs of the individuals. This will include on-line sessions to identify leadership competencies to set personal leadership visions for the near future. The program is a mixture of online and in-person sessions. The in-person sessions allow one-on-ones with professional coaches. These help distinguish differences in types in industry leaders and identify opportunities. Participants will become familiar with principles and methods to improve customer and employee relations. This includes delving into real-life case studies and scenarios to analyze problems and situations in new ways. The result includes understanding how to better communicate, even in difficult situations. Between the online and in-person sessions are virtual feedback assessment meeting to identify gaps in achieving goals and develop an action plan to overcome obstacles, as well as implementing strategies that build on existing and newly learned strengths.
And, the proof of success is recorded in recent statistics that show that those who have attended this Leadership Development program are overwhelmingly using the skills and concepts learned and applied them in their day-to-day job. In addition, the distributor locations have also reported benefits from employees’ participation in this program.
