Evr-Green DC Charging Station

Published April 2022

Global sales of electric vehicles increased by 39% in the last year. Electric vehicles are on the rise with more car makers rolling out new models. And while California is the first state to put a “stake in the ground” by prohibiting the sale of gas-powered vehicles by 2035, other states will surely follow.

With the increase in electric vehicles (EV) comes the need to provide more EV chargers, in the residential, commercial and public arenas. The advancement of EVs opens up significant opportunities for suppliers and other stakeholders. Leviton has recently launched a DC Fast Charger that allows for faster and more efficient charging. This newest DC charger expands Leviton's Evr-Green® line of charging stations and meets the latest stringent codes and standards. It is a public-use DC Fast charger which compliments the AC offering.

Here's how it works. DC chargers convert electricity from AC to DC within the station to feed power direct to the car battery. DC fast chargers require inputs of 480 Volts making them significantly faster than AC charging stations. Instead of taking hours, like Levels 1 & 2 charging stations, DC chargers take between 15 and 45 minutes to charge most passenger electric vehicles up to 80 percent—making it quick and easy to charge on the go. It is important to note that the exact charging time varies depending on the vehicle and vehicle’s battery capacity. However, as the industry and auto manufacturers continue to innovate, we are seeing the latest EVs being released with increased battery range.

Leviton’s DC Fast EV Charging system can provide a longer mileage range or the RPH, which is the estimated maximum number of miles of Range Per Hour, the metric of measuring the power of EV chargers and by which drivers can estimate how far they can go after plugging in. DC fast chargers have a maximum of up to 200 RPH, which exceeds AC Level 1 at a maximum of 5 RPH or AC Level 2 with a maximum of 30 RPH.
Leviton’s EV technology partner, ChargePoint™ Network Services complements the Evr-Green product line by offering a network platform that allows station owners to control access, set pricing, display advertising, monitor station status, and generate usage reports while providing 24/7/365 call center support to drivers. The DC chargers are mainly for commercial public spaces and for long-distance travelers. Besides featuring ChargePoint Network services, Leviton’s Evr-Green DC Charging Station also includes a concrete mounting kit and two connector types (CCS1 and CHAdeMO), which provides fast charging of the most advanced electric vehicles.
