Take a Closer Look at Utility Cost Savings with VerifEye™

Published May 2021

What is one of the biggest variable costs to building owners? Utility costs…(gas, electric, etc). By identifying energy hogs and looking at ways to improve and alleviate overspend, building owners can benefit in cutting major costs and gain monthly and annual savings. The answer is a comprehensive utility submetering and monitoring system.

Leviton to the rescue with VerifEye™, the complete utility submetering and monitoring system that takes a close look into each Building Systems usage. VerifEye™ is in sync with all codes including the latest ASHRAE 90.1 2019 requirements, California’s Title 24, Seattle Energy Code, and New York Local Law 88 requirements for energy monitoring and load disaggregation. VerifEye™ includes a comprehensive line of submeters, communication products and energy information software solutions for tenant billing and energy monitoring applications. Because this integrated system can be configured to the customer needs and expansion plans, initial investment is minimal. Cost-effective scalability provides the building owner with a path to add solutions when future needs arise.

The Sum of Its Parts Provides the Whole View

Many solutions may fall short on integration and expandability by using separate and proprietary operating systems for each application. VerifEye™ easily provides real-time visibility into all utility systems. All the parts and pieces of this system are tied together in a flexible open protocol architecture and can be configured for a wide variety of applications and existing systems. From hardware to software, this system can be scaled to meet each customer’s needs and each market's requirements separately.

At the very core is an efficient submetering system. Through metering, utility usage can be accurately measured and monitored in real time. VerifEye™ submetering equipment is ideal for high- and low-density applications in both new construction and retrofits.

The next step is accessing the metering data, which can be captured a number of ways - either hardwired, wireless or a combination of both. Energy usage data from electric, gas and water meters is collected and stored in energy monitoring hubs. Collected data can be made available in industry standard formats and used to accurately bill tenants, allocate energy costs and identify additional energy savings opportunities.

Tying everything together is the VerifEye™ Building Manager Online (BMO) web-based software. BMO is a web based platform that provides the measurement & verification (M&V) tools necessary to get the most out of a submetering system. The software organizes and displays energy usage data, such as demand patterns to meet facility and code compliance needs. In addition, it can generate data based reports for whole building energy sources (electric, gas, water, steam and BTUs), as well as internal buildings systems to identify consumption and demand patterns in defined time intervals.

Crawl, Walk, Run

Since many customers may be unsure of how measuring and monitoring their energy loads will save costs, it may be wise to start with just one major energy load within the facility, such as HVAC or lighting. This saves upfront costs, minimizing the initial investment.

When seeing the benefits and wanting to expand further, meters can be added and everything easily links together. Extra system components can be added on an as-needed basis and the open protocol architecture enables VerifEye™ to integrate with existing and proprietary systems.

VerifEye™ offers customers the flexibility to configure a system to look into a specific energy load or an entire buildings’ systems. Instead of buying separate metering products from different vendors that may or may not continue to work together, it makes sense to have a highly scalable and flexible solution from one manufacturer, one cost-effective seamlessly integrated solution guaranteed to deliver results.
