Thinking inside the Box: Smart Wallbox Sensors

Published April 2021

How many times have you passed by a room in your office building and seen lights on but no one is there? It’s like throwing money out the window (or in this scenario, to the utility company). It’s a typical situation and pet peeve to everyone – from tenants to facilities' managers. The answer to this problem is to recommend Levitons Smart Wallbox Sensors to your customers.

Leviton Smart Wallbox Sensors take the place of traditional box-mounted lighting controls and are easy to install and configure. Once connected, these detect room occupancy (or vacancy) to adjust the room lighting to programmed settings or to the pre-programmed default settings. It’s the simplest form of touchless dimming or turning off/on the lights. Wallbox sensors can also take advantage of daylighting, which utilizes ambient or artificial light coming into the space to gauge the amount needed from the room’s light fixture which is connected to the smart wallbox. When programmed properly, the sensors can save up to 45% in energy costs for that specific zone.

Targeted at spaces that are 1,100 SF or smaller, Leviton Smart Wallbox Sensors are perfect for offices and meeting rooms in both commercial and residential applications. In addition to saving energy costs, programming the lighting to the occupants’ preferences also add to customized comfort of the workspace or room.

Simple
As easy as 1-2-3, programming is quick and straightforward. The default out-of-the-box operations allow preset auto on/off features, a 10-minute timeout (for reacting to vacancy), sensitivity level set at 75% and disabled nightlight and daylighting features. Or, customized programming is accomplished through the downloadable app once the device is purchased. The user can adjust and set specific sensitivity levels and timeouts, set occupancy levels to the automatic setting or can manually set the vacancy timings. Levitons Smart Wallbox Sensors even offer settings for partial on and off and timeouts for dimming models, which are not available on competitors’ devices.

Secure
The Wallbox Sensors are “intuitive” due to the photocell infrared (PIR) technology that measures infrared (IR) light radiating from objects in its field of view. This allows the sensor to accurately detect or go into the “time out” mode when the room becomes vacant. Each unit can be named to its designated personalized room/location. In addition, a unique security code can be created to lock configuration settings to eliminate any unauthorized persons who might tamper with the settings. In addition, these wallboxes comply with IECC, ASHRAE, Title 24 and meet all safety codes.

Scalable
Multiple units can be installed for various locations and applications. Your customers will want one for every area to equip the entire building or even connected facilities with smart lighting controls which contribute to creating smart buildings.
